Today was another great day at MMH....Alice and her baby, little Annie Oakley came home. Lizzy, a first time mom, was momentarily confused with the addition of a second calf that was almost identical to her own (gotta love those TJ babies!). Then the excitement continued as Priscilla thought she might claim Annie - much to Alice's dismay! In the end though, motherly love held out and Alice stood her ground with little Annie. Perhaps tomorrow morning we will find another calf????? Afterall, three more are due in the next couple of weeks..... This is your new blog post. Well, its been busy around here this weekend! I am ready to retire to my dog bed for the evening but before I did, I completed one last check. Lizzy's little heifer is growing by leaps and bounds. This afternoon she scampered across the paddock after her mother. The calving paddock is filling up nicely.... I have said it before and I will say it again....calving season is like Christmas - you never know what you might find under the tree! Today, last year's show heifer, Lizzy, gave birth to a beautiful little heifer calf just after lunch. Lizzy wasn't quite sure if she wanted to accept this new bundle but before long, she claimed the little girl as her own. Our new girl took her first steps and seems to be doing just fine - her father TJ would be proud! Sioux, Priscilla and Alice are just days away so stay tuned for more exciting news! Alley was Priscilla's first calf, born October 2009, and what a beautiful girl she turned out to be. I hear she should make quite the impression in San Antonio next month and is looking forward to reappearing in Houston and Austin.
Sugar and Lizzy wait patiently...soon they will both give birth! Happy New Year!! This time D-day is for the cows...I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to 2011 and calving season is the perfect way to start off a new year! This year, we will once again add to the 3rd generation of Sugar's family. Lizzy is standing patiently behind her mother, while Priscilla prefers to keep her distance from the general mayhem and pushing/shoving that occurs over cubes....I am guessing that means she is getting close to D-day!! |
