This is my friend Blackie (because they found her with a black collar!) and needless to say, I STILL do not have the troops trained! As you can see, when left unattended, she decided to chew a pen....and can you guess what color it was?!?! My work is never done.....

And so the cycle continues....the 2011 calving season is just around the corner and this week the herd moved back to the front. As you can see, this is TJ's preferred field as he can keep an eye on everything - especially the Gator filled with cubes. This year he was the primary herd bull so I hear everyone is excited to see his babies!! It was a tough weekend for some of the calves....they had their horns surgically removed by the vet. I overheard some of the calves next year will be polled but until then, everyone gets dehorned. It did not look like fun to me but I made sure my rounds included the calves' field just to make sure everyone was recovering.... Winter is here! My friend Madison and I LOVE the cold weather and have been going on the nightly cow checks - those girls seem to be as wide as they are tall again this year. I hear it won't be long before the babies arrive...early next year! Last year's calves are getting ready for the spring shows and I hear they have their first vet trip later this week...ugh - better them than me! |
