it would appear that Viper is a bit confused these days! Viper is a steer temporarily staying at MMH but during his stay, he has decided that his "friend" should be the miniature pony. Apparently love knows n

The 3 newest additions are temporarily spending time with the recently weaned calves in the front paddock after Shiraz's little heifer got a piece of wire caught in her eyelid. Luckily, it seems no permanent damage was done. Shiraz is enjoying her time with the weaned calves....there is nothing she enjoys more than cubes AND sweet feed! My job has been considerably easier since the "babies" all moved into the paddock! Each night my patrol consists of giving everyone some cubes, counting heads and overseeing a few back scratches. The 3 newest additions like to complicate things by racing around, tails high, kicking but it usually only lasts a few minutes....they are too young to appreciate the sweet feed their weaned siblings come running for but I know that will change soon enough.... I am looking forward to Wyatt's return...won't be long now! No, she's not pregnant. These days Shiraz can relate more to Jessica Simpson than Giselle post baby....after giving birth to a beautiful heifer calf just over a month ago, Shiraz only seems to have gained weight nursing her calf. While her profile may be wide, everyone wishes their cattle were as easy keeping as these minis!! Ok, clearly we are not professional photographers and this picture in no way does this calf justice but he is a good-looking bull calf at just 4.5 months old. Today Priscilla's calf headed to his new home and the show barn...he is a stout, deep bodied calf that is sure to knock them dead in the show ring! We look forward to seeing him this spring.... We knew Lizzy was close but this evening she surprised all of us with a wonderful heifer calf! A devoted mother, Lizzy did not appear for her evening cubes and was found by the trees with a calf just an hour or two old....this adorable little girl is the last of our SS Decker Jack calves and if all goes well, is headed for Houston as MMH's 2013 Cow/Calf pair. It looks like it was worth the long wait (18+ months) for Sugar's calf....he is a stout, flashy looking calf at just 2 weeks old. Yeah, we know alot can change in the next few months but we're hoping he stays on this track. He is a full sibling to one of our favorite cows (Mabel - Moose's mom) so he has genetics on his side. Sugar is a tank and Decker has produced some pretty amazing calves so only time will tell! |
