Belle of the ball...
Time flies...amazing that it has been over a year since Dudley passed the MMH torch to me and even more incredible that Ms Belle will soon be having a calf of her own! As Belle has matured, she has continued to gain tremendous depth and rib, yet balance. She is bred to Wyatt and it should be a fablous combination....just waiting for Feb 2013 now
Moose seemed to enjoy the camera and posed accordingly but it would appear Cupid is not as fond of the lens. Each time he'd walk away, leaving us with just a butt shot (see below).
The Power of Sisters
Mabel and Lizzy are sisters from the "Sugar" line of cows. They have all been great additions to MMH and have contributed with their own offspring. Their sister, Priscilla, was one of our first calves and my friend Dudley kept a careful watch on her...since the torch has been passed to me, I have done the same. I oversaw the birth of Lizzy's first calf almost 2yrs ago and will be keeping a careful eye out for her upcoming baby! Mabel had a tougher time with her first calf - Moose - but she has rebounded well and the next Wyatt/Mabel baby should be amazing!!
After last year, we LOVE rainy days!! The clouds provide some reprieve from the heat but more importantly, rain means grass AND hay crops!
The MMH cows never seem to be wanting for anything but everyone seems just a little happier after a good rain. It looks like we might even have a hay crop or two this summer!!
Another one of the girls....
So far, little Lucy (Lacy's calf) is the only heifer of 2012. Although more calves are on the way, this little calf will be a great addition to the herd. She is feminine, yet showing plenty of body and depth. We can't wait to see her grow....
Bye bye Miss Iowa
It was a tough decision but this weekend, little Miss Iowa headed to her new home! She won't be far away and we know she'll will have some beautiful babies, but we will miss her!
