After a show, I can't help but admire the minis with their show cuts.  You can always tell when Jeff Bash has been in town!  Here Millie and Shiraz (her mother) stand together ever hopefull a bucket of cubes is headed their way...

Summer heat has given way to wonderfully cool nights and low humidity days so my nightly patrols are back in full force.  Each day there seem to be more of the minis...and I don't mean more in number, if you get my drift.  Sugar is almost as wide as she is tall these days and some of the heifers are being moved to pastures less green.  Its not polite to discuss weight but some things even an old hound dog like me notices!

Headed Home... 09/27/2009

After a fun, but exhausting show, the cows finally arrived home late last night.  The girls were especially excited as they were exhausted after their first show.  As you can see in this photo, Lizzy is sprawled out trying to get some sleep!

Meet the Zebu... 09/26/2009

Picture
At almost every show that the mini cows attend, there are other miniature cows (although mini Herefords are the best!).  This year the mini cows met several new friends from the miniature Zebu group.  The Zebus look VERY different from my minis and are smaller than I am in most cases!!  They are used in third world countries as an all around utility animal - pulling, packing, milking, etc and are dressed up for ceremonial events.  The American Zebus honor that tradition by hosting a costum contest.  This was the mini's friend TJ (not to be confused with TJ the bull) and his Zebu "Pretty Girl".  Pretty Girl was dressed as a butterfly fairy

Dallas bound.... 09/25/2009

This past weekend, I missed all the excitement.  I was not allowed to go to Dallas - for some reason the State Fair doesn't allow dogs!?!?!  Apparently it started off with a bang - literally!!  The trailer had a blow out on I-45 near Palmer, Texas and after a long and frustrating wait for AAA (which was TOTALLY useless and is now cancelled), Officer Otis White and his dispatch came to save the day.  TJ and the girls did well.  Alice and Millie were even interviewed and featured on the FOX morning news!

....it was a busy day on the ranch although the mini cows watched most of the action from a distance. It was exciting to see the temporary electric fence that has prevented me from entering the top field removed today! It did not look like much, but it only took one touch of that wire for me!

Preparations are fully underway for the show next weekend.  The pile of supplies seems to grow by the minute.  This morning the mini cow trailer was modified with a new tie bar - especially designed for the mini cows - for long distance trips.  The welding truck was large and loud so once I verified everyone was safe, I ran back to the comfort of the house.

I was almost caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the shampoo and hose but with a nose like mine, it's hard to sneak anything by me....needless to say, my friend Mr. Ed was not so lucky!

For those that doubted Henrietta was trying to avoid me, check out the picture above!  She is laying an egg in the gator - cleverly hidden behind feed bags.

Henrietta is one of the five chickens that have taken over this place.  She loves to be picked up and gets more treats these days than I do.  Rumor has it that she is a genius and is even laying 2 eggs a day!
Lately she has taken to laying them in the Gator so I can't eat them....maybe she is smarter than I thought.

Diet days.... 09/15/2009

Picture
As it turns out, I am not the only one on a diet around here.  There must be something about those good ole Montgomery minerals!  Tonight Millie and Lizzy ate a big bowl of grain in front of my friend Alice.  As you can see, she wasn't very happy about it.  Millie and Lizzy must have known this as they took their sweet time eating....

When it rains, it pours!  Much of the weekend was a wash out so I decided to go to the office today....of course I brough my trusty stuffed animal with me.  You might think its odd that a 150# boy like myself walks around with a stuffed animal, but I don't mind.  I am secure in my job...
